The Department of Health (DOH) declared a national dengue alert because of a spike in reported cases. From January 1 to June 29 this year, reported cases of dengue increased by a whopping 85%. Are we on the way to an epidemic? ANC will consult with public health officials on this development.
He asked for it, he got it. A few weeks ago, President Duterte called on Supreme Court Justice Antonio Carpio to give him a formula for asserting our rights in the West Philippine Sea. Carpio did just that, giving President Duterte some choices on how to enforce the country’s maritime arbitral win over China. Solicitor General Jose Calida told critics of government efforts to protect the West Philippines Sea to run for president first. He also said lawyers involved in a petition seeking a writ of kalikasan for some parts of the WPS could face disbarment for allegedly deceiving their clients, fishermen from Zambales and Palawan. The United States said the maritime arbitral ruling won by the Philippines is also legally binding on China. Philippine Amb. to the US Jose Manuel Romualdez and US Amb. to the Philippines Sung Kim will be holding a press conference on the bilateral dialogue held between the two sides.
Icy on Iceland
The Palace downplayed cutting ties with Iceland after it spearheaded a resolution before the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) on Duterte administration’s war on drugs. Presidential mouthpiece Salvador Panelo also said the final decision on ties with Iceland is up to Foreign Affairs Sec. Teddy Locsin Jr. and President Duterte. The camp of Vice President Leni Robredo had said it would not look good if the Philippines cut its ties with Iceland. Also, the President’s attack dogs are going after the Vice President again.
