3 areas under signal no. 1 as Falcon heads north

MANILA—State weather bureau PAGASA early Tuesday placed 3 areas under signal no. 1 as tropical depression Falcon continues to move north.

Batanes, Cagayan and northern Isabela may be whipped by 30 to 60 kilometers per hour (kph) winds in 36 hours.

In its 5 a.m. advisory, PAGASA said Falcon was last spotted 690 kilometers east of Tuguegarao City, Cagayan.

Falcon has maintained its strength with 55 kph winds near the center and gusts of up to 65 kph.

PAGASA said Falcon may intensity into a tropical storm before making landfall over extreme northern Luzon on Wednesday.

On Tuesday, light to moderate with occasional heavy monsoon rains will prevail over Mimaropa, Western Visayas, Albay, Masbate, Sorsogon and Northern Samar.

On Wednesday, moderate to heavy rains will be experienced over Ilocos Region, Cordillera Administrative Region, Cagayan Valley, Zambales, Bataan and Mindoro Provinces due to the combined effects of Falcon and the enhanced southwest monsoon. 

Meanwhile, light to moderate with occasional heavy monsoon rains will prevail over Metro Manila, Calabarzon, Western Visayas, and the rest of Central Luzon and Mimaropa.

On Thursday, moderate to heavy rains will be experienced over Ilocos Region, Zambales, Bataan and Mindoro Provinces. Meanwhile, light to moderate with occasional heavy monsoon rains will prevail over Metro Manila, Calabarzon, and the rest of Central Luzon and Mimaropa.

PAGASA warned residents at risk of flooding and landslides to take precautionary measures, coordinate with their respective local disaster risk reduction and management offices and continue monitoring weather updates.
