COTABATO CITY - Six rebels were killed while hundreds of civilians were displaced in four days of fighting between the Army and Muslim insurgents in strife-torn Maguindanao province, the military said Saturday.
Troops also recovered four improvised bombs as the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF) fled several villages in Shariff Aguak and Datu Unsay towns, said Colonel Cirilito Sobejana, commander of the Army's 601st Brigade.
Sobejana identified three of the BIFF fatalities as Bolari Suwaib, Muti Monib, and Zukarno.
The BIFF is a breakaway faction of the country's main Muslim rebel group, the Moro Islamic Liberation Front. It does not support peace talks with the government.
Also on Saturday, the Army awarded wounded personnel medals to seven troopers who were injured in the fighting.
Around 200 families remained in evacuation centers on Saturday as the army pursuit continued.
