ZAMBOANGA CITY— Suspected Abu Sayyaf members abducted five school painters in Patikul, Sulu at dawn Saturday.

The Sulu Provincial Office identified the victims as Joel Adansa, Jung Gueremmo, Moymoy Ramos, Jayson Ramos, and Jenlyn Miranda.

The victims were sleeping inside the Kawmpang Elementary School Sports Complex when around 20 suspected Abu Sayyaf members barged in and forcibly took the victims.

Larry Velasquez, one of the companions of the victims, managed to escape from the bandits and reported the incident to authorities in Patikul.

Authorities immediately responded but the abductors have already fled the area.

Police named the Abu Sayyaf group as the prime suspect, as it has been notorious for its kidnap-for-ransom activities.

Last week, two fishermen were rescued by government troops in Patikul, Sulu after being held hostage by the Abu Sayyaf for seven months.
