MANILA—A magnitude 4.5 earthquake rocked Surigao del Norte on Sunday morning, Phivolcs said, a day after a strong quake injured 51 in neighboring Surigao del Sur.
The quake struck at 8:16 a.m. Sunday, 29 kilometers northwest of Burgos town.
The tremor followed a magnitude 5.8 quake that left 51 people injured in Surigao del Sur early Saturday.
Sunday's quake was tectonic in origin and had a depth of 25 kilometers, according to Phivolcs.
Today's earthquake in Surigao del Norte, however, was unrelated to the quake which struck Surigao del Sur on Saturday, according to Phivolcs, as they were caused by two different fault systems.
The quake was felt at Intensity II in Borongan City, Eastern Samar.
The tremor was not expected to cause any damage and aftershock.
Sancina Sulapas, a local disaster official of Burgos town, said no injuries and damages have been reported so far.
"Nagiikot po ako at tinatanong yung residente kung naramdaman ba nila at kung may pinsala. Wala naman po, sa awa ng Diyos," she told radio DZMM.
