MANILA- Despite tendering his irrevocable resignation, Benjamin Delos Santos was ordered by Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre II to continue his functions as Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) chief pending President Rodrigo Duterte's action on his resignation letter.
Aguirre gave the order on Friday, via a memorandum "[i]n the interest of service and in order not to hamper the operation of the BuCor."
Delos Santos, however, said he will not comply with the order.
"Nope," De Los Santos said, in a text message, adding that he stopped reporting for work and is now on a holiday.
Delos Santos said it would be best to appoint an officer-in-charge at the bureau in light of his resignation.
He resigned on July 13, following Aguirre's pronouncement to the media on July 3 that the illegal drug trade that proliferated during the term of Justice Secretary and now detained Sen. Leila De Lima has been revived.
