MANILA—Vice-President Leni Robredo on Friday dampened speculation surrounding her supposed presidential ambitions, maintaining she's not considering running in 2022.

"Kung balak, wala," she told DZMM Teleradyo's "Pasada Sais Trenta."

"Pero sa akin kasi, iyong mga nangyari in the past, iyong lesson talaga noon sa akin, kailangan handa ka kung ano iyong dadating."

Robredo was thrust into politics following her husband Jesse's death in 2012.

"Noong mayor pa iyong asawa ko — nag-mayor siya for 6 terms — so nag-lapse iyong kaniyang term twice. Iyong una noong 1998, after nakatapos siya ng 3 [terms], may clamor na ako iyong pumalit. Iyong sagot ko, parating, 'Over my dead body. Hindi ako magiging politiko.'," she said.

"Pero sino namang mag-aakala na mamamatay siya ng maaga? Noong namatay siya ng maaga, naramdaman ko na parang obligasyon, obligasyon na maging transitional candidate,"

She won as congresswoman in Camarines Sur in the 2013 elections.

Robredo then went on take the vice presidency in 2016 upon the prodding of allies and supporters.

"Tapos noong 2015, bigla na lang kandidato ako for VP. Parang sino namang mag-aakala na mananalo ako, na kalaban mo Marcos?" she said.
