MANILA—Vice President Leni Robredo on Friday said she is taking a more active stance against people who discredit her work, compared to the time when she was starting her term.

"Tingin ko kasi may pagkukulang din ako," she told DZMM Teleradyo's "Pasada Sais Trenta."

"Iyong pagpasok namin, iyong first few months into my term at saka siguro iyong first 2 years . . . parang parati kong sinasabihan sa office na, 'Kapag kasinungalingan, huwag nating papansinin.' "

For Robredo, who regularly faces a barrage of online criticism, responding to lies would only legitimize them.

"Parang dini-dignify mo lang. 'Mawawala rin iyan kasi hindi totoo.' Pero parang mali ako doon," she said.

The vice president said propaganda had always gotten the better of her incumbency.

"Tingin ko iyong tao kasi, naunahan kasi siya ng propaganda. Noong first few years ko, naunahan siya ng propaganda na mayroon talagang . . . mayroon talagang deliberate effort na ipakita na wala akong ginagawa," she said.

Being modest all the time, Robredo said, has its drawbacks.

"Kasi noong una, parang masyado rin kaming naive na inisip na makakatulong kapag modest ka all the way. Pero ang problema, nauunahan ka ng propaganda na wala kang ginagawa," she said.

Despite criticism, Robredo said she is not losing focus on her work, which had proven fruitful for her following an increase in her satisfaction rating in March 2019.

"Eyes to the ball. Kahit ano'ng ingay sa paligid natin, basta hindi tayo mag-lose ng focus," she said.
