NEGROS OCCIDENTAL – A police officer was wounded in a shootout with a member of a robbery group in La Carlota City Tuesday night.

Senior Police Officer 3 Jerry Rumbines of the La Carlota City Police Station sustained minor injury after he was shot by Joven Seva, 19, following a pursuit operation.

Seva and three other suspects, identified as Danilo Celeste Jr., Alejandro Montoya Jr., and Marvin Celeste Jr., were seen near a gasoline station in Barangay Ampong, La Carlota, on board two separate motorcycles that were reported stolen.

The suspects then ran after being alerted to the presence of law enforcers.

Of the four suspects, Celeste was able to escape.

The robbery group was linked to two crime incidents in a day. The first one was in Barangay Balabag when they held up a money lending collector at 10 a.m. and carted away P8000 in cash. At 6:30 p.m. the group then carjacked two motorcycles.

Police recovered from the suspects the stolen motorcycles, two firearms and ammunition.

During the arrest, Seva also yielded two sachets of suspected shabu. The suspects are detained at the station for filing of the appropriate charges.
