MANILA - The number of policemen who have contracted COVID-19 has risen to 1,063, the Philippine National Police said Saturday.
The PNP recorded 19 new cases where 11 came from Metro Manila, 5 from the Aviation Security Group, while the national headquarters in Camp Crame and the Cordillera Police each tallied 1, according to the agency's Public Information Office.
Some 1,437 policemen are believed to be carrying the virus, while 470 have recovered and 9 have died from the illness.

Most of the policemen who contracted the disease are frontliners, PNP spokesman Brig Gen. Bernard Banac earlier said.
The Philippines has so far tallied 54,222 coronavirus cases, of whom 1,372 have died while 14,037 have recovered.
