MANILA- President Rodrigo Duterte said Friday he was fed up with corruption in the Bureau of Customs so he removed 64 of the agency’s employees.
Duterte said he relieved the entire administrative section of the BOC and ordered them to report to Malacañang.
“Yesterday, tinanggal ko sa trabaho ang entire administrative section ng Customs, 64 of them. Sabi ko mag-report sila,” the President said in a speech at the Araw ng Pasasalamat for OFWs at Camp Aguinaldo, Quezon City.
“Napuno na ako, sabi ko hindi talaga mahinto itong p*t*ng in*ng ito, umalis kayo diyan,” he said.
(I got really fed up. These people just won't stop. Just go.)
The President on Thursday said he ordered Customs employees with pending cases or had cases before to report to the Palace on Monday.
He also claimed that he could cut corruption in the government by a third once he weeds out crooked officials and employees from the BOC, which he has repeatedly criticized.
In 2018, Duterte said he wanted the Armed Forces of the Philippines to take over the agency after billions of pesos worth of illegal drugs slipped past its watch.
