GINGOOG CITY - Eight people were arrested for allegedly operating a cybersex den in Barangay 13, Gingoog City, Misamis Oriental on Tuesday.

Among those arrested was Ruel Ruiz, a resident of Lingig, Surigao del Sur.

Ruiz admitted that he rented the apartment together with his seven friends but denied he was operating a cybersex den.

Acting chief of police Superintendent Roel Lami-ing said the suspects would befriend foreigners through social media and invite their victims to engage in cybersex.

The victims are unaware that the lewd act is recorded for blackmail.

Lami-ing said they received information that a certain group had been operating a cybersex den in the city since August 2015.

"Pag nakuha nila yung kiliti nila at naging friend na sila o boyfriend/girlfriend na sila sa Facebook and then dun na mangyayari ang lewd scenes o videos. Ipapakita nila dun sa biktima iyung video at i-extort nila iyan, manghihingi sila ng certain amount," he said.

Recovered inside the apartment were seven laptops, electronic gadgets, receipts from a remittance center, ATM cards and P7,000.

The eight suspects have been charged with violation to the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012.
