CEBU CITY – A suspected drug user went on a stabbing spree Monday night, killing two of his neighbors before running away.
Suspect Eddie Ardiente, 22, of Sitio Maaslom in Barangay Busay, first stabbed his cousin, Cyric Balolot, in the arm around 8 p.m. Monday.
Balolot then ran towards the house of couple Ricardo and Francesca Cupta to seek refuge but they too were stabbed by the suspect.
Witnesses said Ardiente seemed to be under the influence of drugs and would not listen to people around him to stop.
Ricardo, 62, was brought to Cebu City Medical Center while his 61-year-old wife was rushed to Perpetual Succor Hospital. Both were declared dead on arrival.
The suspect was included in the list of personalities that will be subjected to Oplan Tokhang, an initiative that sees law enforcers go to the homes of drug suspects and advise them to change their ways.
Authorities said the suspect had said he was scared to surrender to police.
Police are now conducting follow-up operations to arrest the suspect, who fled after the incident.
