NO DRUG USERS HERE: All policemen in Ilocos Sur province tested negative for illegal drug use, a police official said Tuesday.
Chief Inspector Greg Guerrero of the Ilocos Sur Police Community Relations said all of the over 1,200 uniformed and non-uniformed personnel in the province tested negative for drug use during a random test conducted last week.
''Maganda ang magiging impact nito dahil maipapakita natin sa ating mga kababayan na kahit sa hanay natin, seryoso tayo na sugpuin ang illegal na droga,'' he said.
Guerrero, however, insisted that the police leadership in the province will remain on guard against cops who may be involved in illegal drug operations.
''Gayunpaman, magkakaroon pa rin tayo ng random drug test kapag may mga naipaalam sa atin na gumagamit mula sa ating hanay, gayundin din ang imbestigasyon kung mayroon man mga protektor sa operasyon ng illegal na droga," he added.
Over 500 drug users and pushers in different parts of province have surrendered for profiling after President Rodrigo Duterte vowed to rid the country of criminality and illegal drugs in less than a year.
In Camp Crame, PNP Crime Laboratory director Chief Supt. Emmanuel Aranas said 20 policemen have so far tested positive for drug use, 5 of whom are from Luzon, 6 from Visayas, and 9 from Mindanao.
