ZAMBOANGA CITY – The Immaculate Conception Archdiocesan School in Barangay Tetuan here cancelled classes on Thursday to give way for a mass fumigation to rid the campus of mosquitoes.
Orlando Abarabar of the City Health Office said that as fumigation only kills flying mosquitoes, they brought chemicals to get rid of mosquito breeding places.
Last Tuesday, another school in the same Barangay was prompted to cancel classes due to the increasing number of mosquitoes in the area.
Tetuan is listed as one of the top 10 villages in the city with high cases of dengue.
But the City Health Office clarified that mosquitoes present in both schools are not carriers of dengue.
