MANILA -- The 54-member party-list bloc in the House of Representatives said Thursday it would support President Rodrigo Duterte's position in the chamber's leadership row.
The power struggle is over after Duterte endorsed his former running mate, Taguig-Pateros Rep. Alan Peter Cayetano as the next speaker under a term-sharing agreement with Marinduque Rep. Lord Allan Velasco, said 1-PACMAN Rep. Mikee Romero, president of the Party-list Coalition Bloc.
Aonther contender, Leyte Rep. Martin Romualdez will be majority leader under the settlement proposed by the President. The new speaker will be elected in late July.
"We will follow what he endorses. We don't want to be disruptive. We will behave," Romero told ANC's Headstart.
"It's safe to say now that the speakership issue is now over. The Congress telenovela has been put into end," he said.
Under the term sharing, Romero said Cayetano agreed to serve for 15 months while Velasco will succeed him, serving for 21 months. Romualdez will be Majority Leader for three years.
Romero said the party-list coalition was pushing for proportional representation in committee chairmanships and vice chairmanships.
