MANILA - President Rodrigo Duterte has appointed former Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) chair Francis Tolentino as his political adviser.
A list of appointees released by the Palace on Tuesday showed Tolentino was appointed last June 27.
The post taken by Tolentino is similar to the one held by Ronald Llamas during the time of former president Benigno Aquino III, Palace officials said.
Tolentino ran in the 2016 senatorial race but landed on the 13th spot, behind 12th placer Senator Leila de Lima.
Duterte endorsed Tolentino’s candidacy, saying he had known the former MMDA chairman for a long time.
Tolentino decided to leave the erstwhile ruling Liberal Party after he earned heavy criticism for allegedly sending sexy dancers as a “gift” to then-Laguna Rep. Benjie Agarao during his birthday celebration which also doubled as a an oath-taking event for the party.
