MANILA (UPDATE) - At least 6 soldiers were wounded in an explosion in Barangay Sangbay, Nagtipunan, Quirino on Tuesday.

The blast was reportedly a retaliation by New People's Army rebels for the July 4 military operation in Barangay Disimungal, Quirino.

Three of the injured soldiers were immediately given first aid while the 3 others were brought to Cabarroguis hospital.

Some military vehicles were also slightly damaged in the blast.

Fifth Infantry Division Commander, Major Gen. Paul Atal, condemned the incident, saying the act is a violation of the Comprehensive Agreement on Respect of Human Rights and International Humanitarian Law (CARHRIHL) and the international rules of warfare.
