KUALA LUMPUR -- President Rodrigo Duterte will fly to Malaysia to watch Senator Manny Pacquiao's fight and to meet with Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad, a Filipino diplomat said Tuesday.
Duterte and Mahathir spoke on the phone before the Filipino leader presided over a Cabinet meeting in Manila on Monday and the two agreed to meet, Philippine Ambassador to Malaysia Charles Jose told reporters.
"He's coming here to watch the fight and after that, he wants to meet with Prime Minister Mahathir," Jose said.
"Inaarange na namin yung meeting na yun (We are arranging that meeting)," he said.
Pacquiao will fight Argentine Lucas Matthysse for the WBA regular welterweight title in the Malaysian capital on Sunday.
It will be Duterte's first meeting Mahathir, who defeated former prime minister Najib Razak in May.
