ILOILO - A 23-year-old man jumped off a ship bound for Iloilo after removing his clothes close to midnight on Friday.
The man, identified as Arnel Tero of Barangay San Isidro La Paz, Iloilo City, was with his aunt and uncle on board M/V Trans Asia 8 bound for Iloilo from Bohol.
At around 11:55 p.m. on Friday, another passenger saw Tero remove his clothes before jumping off the ship somewhere between Chocolate Island and Tapilon Point in the northern part of Cebu.
The captain of the ship immediately instructed the crew to conduct a search and rescue operation in the area. However, they failed to find Tero and the ship continued the trip to Iloilo.
Tero's family has been informed of the incident. According to his mother, Maria Luz Tero, she spoke with his son on the phone while he was still in Bohol.
Her son did not mention any problem to her although his uncle noticed that Tero was very quiet and absent-minded while onboard the vessel.
As of writing, the Philippine Coast Guard, which had been conducting a search and rescue operation, has yet to find Tero.
His family is convinced that Tero intended to commit suicide.
