MANILA - Vice President Leni Robredo said Saturday leading the government's housing agency reminded her of her late husband Jesse, who shared the same advocacy for the poor.
Robredo said President Rodrigo Duterte offered her the chairmanship of the Housing and Urban Development Coordinating Council (HUDCC) on July 7, the same date her husband was offered the post of interior secretary in 2010.
"Parang full circle for Jesse and me," Robredo said of the former interior chief, who died in a plane crash in 2012.
"Kasi si Jesse, ang number one advocacy niya ay housing. Ako naman... I was defending so many urban poor communities. And now, I am given this one chance," she said during a thanksgiving event at the Ateneo de Manila University.
The Vice President said it was like her late husband was making his presence felt.
"Parang when people ask me, 'Nagpaparamdam ba sa iyo si Jesse?' Sabi ko, 'Hay naku, pag nagsabi akong oo, it's an understatement."
Robredo was also proclaimed the winner of the vice presidential race on May 27, which was coincidentally the 58th birth anniversary of her husband. -- reports from Jasmin Romero, ABS-CBN News
