DFA reports 74 new COVID-19 cases among Filipinos abroad; total now at 8,762

MANILA - The Department of Foreign Affairs on Wednesday said 74 new cases of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) have been recorded among Filipinos abroad, mostly in the Middle East. 

This raises the total number of infected Philippine nationals overseas to 8,762.

The DFA reported 13 new fatalities, while 19 more have recovered from the disease.

Of the total cases, 2,935 are active while 5,237 have recovered. A total of 590 have succumbed to the disease. 

These cases are from 63 countries and regions.

The breakdown by region of those undergoing treatment is as follows: 122 in the Asia-Pacific; 478 in Europe; 2,216 in the Middle East and Africa; and 119 in the Americas.

In the Philippines, 1,540 new confirmed COVID-19 cases were recorded on Tuesday, marking its third highest single-day spike since the pandemic began.

The additional cases raised the nationwide total to 47,873, of which 34,178 are considered active cases.

A total of 1,309 have died in the country due to the disease, while 12,386 others have recovered.
