MANILA - Sen. Ronald "Bato" dela Rosa said Monday he would support Senate President Vicente "Tito" Sotto, calling it a "done deal."
Senators will vote for their new leader when the 18th Congress reopens in late July. The name of Sen. Cynthia Villar, who topped the May senatorial elections, was earlier floated as a contender for the Senate presidency.
"Hindi ko pa nabilang pero parang done deal na yan," Dela Rosa told ANC's Headstart.
(I haven't been counted yet but it seems like a done deal.)
"Yes, napagusapan na namin yan (We have discussed it). We will support him, we will maintain the status quo," he did not elaborate.
When asked about Villar, Dela Rosa said: "She’s not interested but kung mag-insist siya baka makakuha siya ng numbers pero napagusapan naman namin na we will support Sen. Sotto."
(She's not interested but if she insists, she might get the numbers. But we have agreed that we will support Sen. Sotto.)
Sotto needs the vote of at least 13 colleagues to retain his post as Senate president.
