DFA reports 9 new COVID-19 cases among Filipinos abroad; total at 8,688

MANILA - The Department of Foreign Affairs on Tuesday said there are nine new cases of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) among Filipinos abroad.

With this development, the total number of infected Philippine nationals overseas is now at 8,688.

The DFA reported no new fatalities, while 17 more have recovered from the disease.

Of the total cases, 2,893 are active while the majority of 5,218 have recovered. A total of 577 succumbed to the disease. 

These cases are from 62 countries and regions.

The breakdown by region of those undergoing treatment is as follows: 121 in the Asia Pacific; 473 in Europe; 2,180 in the Middle East and Africa; and 119 in the Americas.

In the Philippines, 1,540 new confirmed COVID-19 cases were recorded on Tuesday, marking its third highest single-day spike since the pandemic began.

The additional cases raised the nationwide total to 47,873, of which 34,178 are considered active cases.

A total of 1,309 have died in the country due to the disease, while 12,386 others have recovered.
