MANILA (UPDATE) - Former Senate Sergeant-at-Arms Jose Balajadia Jr. passed away on Sunday at Baguio General Hospital, his daughter Rica Balajadia Guerrero confirmed. He was 75.

Balajadia, “Pitong” to his family and friends, died of heart failure at 12:50 a.m. Sunday, according to his son Jet.

He was diagnosed with bone cancer last year and then prostate cancer early this year.

Balajadia underwent treatments to target the prostate, and cleared it, but the bone cancer was aggressive, his daughter said.

He had been in and out of hospitals for pain management and stomach issues due to pain medication, she added.

“This last hospitalization really impacted him. They discovered din na meron siyang enlarged heart. Last week he got pneumonia. He collapsed late last night Philippine time at hindi na na-revive," Guerrero said.

Balajadia, who retired from the Senate last month, was born in Ilocos on Nov. 23, 1943. He is survived by his wife, 5 children, and 4 grandchildren.

Balajadia's wake will be held at the St. Peter Chapel in Baguio City until 8 p.m. Wednesday, his son said.

His remains will be transported to Villamor Air Base on Thursday morning for a military wake until his burial at the Libingan ng mga Bayani, with the date yet to be finalized. --With reports from Connie Macatula-DeLeon, ABS-CBN North America News Bureau; and Sherrie Ann Torres, ABS-CBN News
