SULU – A member of the Abu Sayyaf Group was killed during an encounter with government troops on Wednesday morning in Patikul, Sulu, the Western Mindanao Command reported.
Operating troops from the 35th Infantry Battalion were conducting Focused Military Operations when they chanced upon more or less 20 ASG members believed to be responsible for the killing of unarmed soldiers in different areas in Jolo.
Troops recovered the body of the still unidentified ASG member after the encounter that lasted for five minutes along Barangay Maligay. A .45 caliber pistol was also recovered from the scene.
The focused military operations in Sulu adds pressure on the ASG to release their remaining kidnapped victims.
To date, there are nine foreigners and three locals believed to still be in the hands of the bandits.
