VIRAL: Mula fat to fit na byahe ng dating 332 lbs na lalaki

NAGA CITY – Walang imposible sa taong determinado. Ito ang napatunayan ni Coach Dante Pascual Jr., consultant ng basketball varsity ng Naga City Montessori School sa Camarines Sur.

Viral at trending topic ngayon sa internet si Pascual dahil sa malaking pagbabago na bunga ng kanyang isang taong paghihirap: ang makapagbawas ng timbang sa loob ng isang taon.

"I've been fat my whole life: I was a chubby kid, an obese teenager, and at 27, I weighed 151kg (332lbs). At the time, my life had gotten complicated and it really hit me when my blood pressure shot up to 180/140, and my sugar reached 300. I knew it was hard to battle this kind of illness," kwento ni Pascual sa kanyang Facebook post noong Hunyo 30 na mahigit sa 16,000 na ang natanggap na "Likes" sa social networking site.

Ito umano ang gumising at nagtulak sa kanya para simulan ang panloob at panlabas na pagbabago.

"I realized that I had to change first how I felt in the inside—my perspectives—before I could begin to change the outside—my physical appearance," sabi niya.

Inabot siya ng isang taon para makuha ang resultang nais niya para sa sarili.

"Everything turned out as I had desired them to be—a changed life, a change for good. When I started, I weighed around 147 kg (323 lbs). Now, I am down to 76 kg (167 lbs). I have lost almost half of my starting body mass. Back then, I thought it was impossible for me to lose weight because I was in denial about my unhealthy lifestyle," kwento niya.

Hindi man naging madali, pero kinaya niya ang pagsubok dahil na rin sa suportang patuloy na ibinibigay sa kanya ng kanyang pamilya, katrabaho at mga kaibigan.

Laking pasalamat din niya sa Ateneo Fitness and Wellness Center, lalo na kay Kit Navarroza, sa pagtutok sa kanya at pagbibigay ng motibasyon at tamang kaalaman sa isang taong pagsusumikap na makapagbawas ng timbang. Dito niya sinimulan ang "#365DaysofTransformationChallenge."

"Many people are asking me what my secret is in losing weight. There is no secret; it's just plain discipline and commitment," ayon kay Pascual. "It's discipline because between what I want now and what I want most, I have chosen the latter. It's commitment because I have committed to actually changing my life; it is entirely different from willing to change it."

Sa ngayon, patuloy na hinahamon ni Pascual ang kanyang sarili sa pagtatakda ng mga bagong goal upang mabigyan pa siya ng karagdagang inspirasyon sa kanyang training.

"In the first 5 months, I did a lot of HIIT, elliptical and cardio to trim down my huge body mass; these resulted in a loss of more than 40 kg. I remember that during that time, I used to work out twice a day--2 hours of cardio in the morning, and another 2 hours of weight training in the evening. For the succeeding months, I focused on strength and muscle building to minimize the appearance of all the loose or sagging skin. I also changed my eating habit, by eating healthily and meeting my right calorie count daily," dagdag pa niya.
