ZAMBOANGA CITY--Nine police officers involved in the fatal shooting of 4 soldiers in Jolo, Sulu, will be transferred to Camp Crame in Quezon City, the top police official said on Friday.

The detained police officers will be moved to the national headquarters to ease tension between police and military in the province, said Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Police Gen. Archie Gamboa.

"Suggestion din mismo ni Presidente [Rodrigo Duterte] na ilayo sila. Isasakay namin sila sa AFP (Armed Forces of the Philippines) plane at ako ang kanilang chief security custodial officer," Gamboa said.

In the wake of the incident, Police Maj. Walter Annayo, chief of Jolo Municipal Police Station, was relieved of his duties, Gamboa added.

Sulu Provincial Police Office director Police Col. Michael Bawayan, meanwhile, will remain in his post.

Members of the board of inquiry from police and military will visit Jolo next week to investigate the incident.

The President on Friday talked with the officers involved in the shooting during his visit at a military camp in Zamboanga City.

In his speech, he asked soldiers and police to remain calm and wait for the results of the investigation.
