MANILA - The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said Friday 13 more Filipinos abroad contracted coronavirus disease (COVID-19), raising the total tally of overseas infections among citizens to 8,627.
In its latest bulletin, the agency reported no new coronavirus-related fatality. The death toll stood at 561.
Meanwhile, the number of those who recovered from COVID-19 rose by 15, leading to a total 5,163.
“To date, the Middle East remains to be the region with the most number of confirmed COVID-19 cases, recoveries, under treatment and fatalities among our nationals,” the DFA said in a statement.
"While Asia and the Pacific has the least numbers in all categories except total number of recoveries where the Americas ranks lowest with only 375 recoveries," it added.
To date, some 2,903 Filipino patients abroad are undergoing treatment for COVID-19, broken down as follows by region: 128 in the Asia Pacific Region, 470 in Europe, 2,151 in the Middle East and Africa and 154 in the Americas.
In the Philippines, the number of COVID-19 cases breached the 40,000-mark, with 1,531 new infections reported Friday. The tally includes 1,280 fatalities and 11,073 recoveries. - With a report from Willard Cheng, ABS-CBN News
