MANILA -- Manila Mayor Francisco "Isko" Moreno on Monday told officials of the University of the East to "shut down" the institution if it will disobey future orders for the suspension of classes.

Moreno cancelled afternoon classes for all levels in the capital on Monday due to monsoon rains enhanced by the tropical depression Egay.

UE, however, "amended" his order and cancelled classes only for the grade school and high school levels, but not the college level, Moreno said in a Facebook video.

"Ayoko na pong mauulit iyan. Kung hindi po kayo susunod, kayong mga eskuwelahan sa mga tagubilin ng pamahalaang lungsod ng Maynila... you are not welcome to the city of Manila, magsara na po kayo, shut down your institution

(I don't want a repeat of that. If you don't obey the order of the city government, you are not welcome to the city of Manila, shut down your institution.)

The UE, in its Facebook page, initially announced that classes are suspended from kinder to Grade 12 in its Manila and Caloocan campuses.

In another Facebook post at 1 p.m., it said classes have been suspended in all levels.
