MANILA - President Rodrigo Duterte has yet to accept Agriculture Secretary Manny Piñol's courtesy resignation, Malacañang said Monday.
Presidential spokesperson Salvador Panelo said he still expects Piñol to attend the Cabinet meeting Monday afternoon.
"Oo, hindi pa naman tinatanggap resignation niya. The President has not accepted his resignation, courtesy resignation lang naman yun eh," Panelo told reporters.
(Yes, the President has not yet accepted his resignation. The President has not accepted his resignation, it was only a courtesy resignation.)
"Hindi pa. Sinabi ni Presidente 'di ba I will ask Mr. (Al-Haj) Murad kung okay sa kanila?"
(Not yet. The President said he will ask Mr. Murad first if it's okay with them.)
Duterte earlier said he wants Piñol to head the Mindanao Development Authority (MINDA).
"I cannot see anybody on the horizon except Piñol who was born in Mindanao and grew up there. He’s a farmer and then a governor," the President said Thursday.
Asked whether this means the President is accepting the courtesy resignation of Pinol, Duterte replied that he has to talk to BARMM chief interim minister Al Haj Murad to make sure that Piñol is acceptable to them.
Duterte added that he had no problems with Piñol as agriculture secretary, contrary to speculation.
