Former House Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez took his oath as Davao del Norte First District Representative Sunday morning at the Davao del Norte gym.

Associate Justice Alexander Gesmundo, Alvarez's law school classmate, presided over his oath-taking.

In his speech, Alvarez thanked the people of Davao del Norte for the landslide victory of his party PDP-Laban in the province.

Alvarez also reiterated that he wants to reclaim the House speakership.

"Yes, I’m still included in the list. I will just work in accordance with the plans of God," he said, adding that all the contenders for House speaker are smart and good men.

When asked if he has talked to President Rodrigo Duterte about his plans, he said the President just listened to him.

Taguig Rep. Alan Peter Cayetano claimed in a statement that Duterte had pushed for a term-sharing agreement as a win-win solution to resolve the row on the House speakership.

Aside from Cayetano, Marinduque Rep. Lord Alan Velasco and Leyte Representative-elect Martin Romualdez are also vying for the position of speaker of the House of Representatives.
