40 doktor sa Western Visayas tutulong sa laban kontra COVID-19 sa Cebu

MAYNILA (UPDATE) - Nasa 40 doktor mula Western Visayas ang nakatakdang ipadala sa Cebu para tumulong sa laban kontra COVID-19.

Ayon kay Dr. Sophia Pulmones ng Department of Health (DOH) Region 6, nasa 10 doktor ang unang ipapadala sa Cebu sa Lunes, Hunyo 29.

Siyam na doktor ay nasa ilalim ng Doctors to the Barrios (DTTB) program, habang ang isa ay nasa Post-Residency Deployment Program ng DOH.

Nilinaw ni Pulmones na hindi isasama sa mga ipapadala sa Cebu ang mga doktor sa Region 6 na nag-iisa lang sa mga bayan kung saan sila na-assign.

"Ang mga LGUs (local government units) na walang doktor sa kanilang rural health units, hindi na sila ide-deploy sa Cebu para hindi ma-hamper ang kanilang public health services," aniya.

Ang mga doktor na ipadadala ay rural health physicians, ayon kay Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire. Pero mananatili ang mga municipal health officers sa kanilang mga lugar upang masigurado na may doktor sa kanilang lugar.

"The doctors will not be permanently deployed in Cebu City but will only provide relief similar to previous temporary assignments (i.e. Marawi, Yolanda)," ani Vergeire.

Sinabi ni Vergeire na umabot na sa "critical point" ang COVID-19 cases sa Cebu City kaya nagpapasalamat ang kagawaran sa mga tumugon sa "patriotic call" nito.

"Following reports of (Center for Health Development) 7 Director (Jaime) Bernadas that the Cebu City health care system is overwhelmed with patient load at the moment, Health Secretary Francisco T. Duque III issued a directive to deploy doctors including DTTBs," pahayag ni Vergeire. 

"The very nature of the DTTB program is to post doctors, usually in most remote areas where access to healthcare is a challenge, and where quality health care service is most needed," dagdag niya.

Mananatili ng dalawang linggo ang mga doktor sa iba't ibang ospital sa Cebu at isasailalim sila sa 2-week quarantine pagkatapos. 

Base sa pinakahuling ulat ng DOH Region 7 nitong Sabado ng hapon, nakapagtala na ang Cebu City ng 5,598 kaso ng COVID-19, kung saan, 3,116 dito ay active cases. --May ulat ni Cherry Palma, ABS-CBN News
