CAGAYAN DE ORO - A total of 8,000 rounds of ammunition believed to be bound for war-torn Marawi City were intercepted at a forwarding company in Brgy. Camaman-an last week, authorities said Wednesday.
Cagayan de Oro City Police Office and Martial Law Special Action Group presented to the media 6,000 rounds of M16 ammunition and 2,000 rounds of .30 caliber gun which they seized in an operation on Friday.
Authorities said they got information from the National Capital Region (NCR) Regional Intelligence Unit regarding the ammunition in Cagayan de Oro, which were reportedly bound for Marawi.
The supposed recipient of the ammunition, who was still unnamed by authorities as of posting, surrendered to the Martial Law Special Action Group last Monday, police said.
The battle for the Islamic City of Marawi has been raging for more than a month now, with martial law imposed over the entire Mindanao.
Government said, as of 6 p.m. Tuesday, there had been 397 deaths in Marawi, including 299 terror suspects, 71 troopers and 27 civilians.
