MANILA - A magnitude 3.6 earthquake rattled several towns in Surigao del Norte province Monday, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.

The quake's epicenter was located 8 kilometers southwest of Anao-aon town, Surigao del Norte . It struck at 09:39 a.m.

With a depth of 3 kilometers, the tremor was felt at Intensity 4 in Surigao City, San Francisco and Malimono.

Intensity 1 was also observed in Mainit town.

Phivolcs describes Intensity 4 as "moderately strong." It can be felt like the passing of a heavy truck and can rattle wood-framed buildings, the agency said.

Intensity 1, meanwhile, may move delicately balanced objects and water in containers.

Phivolcs said no major damage and aftershocks were expected from the earthquake.
