KIDAPAWAN CITY - The provincial government of Cotabato on Wednesday confirmed 3 new coronavirus cases, bringing the province's total number of infections to 9.

Cotabato province has recorded 9 confirmed coronavirus cases, with 5 recoveries and four active cases, as of Wednesday.

One of the fresh cases is an asymptomatic 38-year-old female from Tulunan town who has travel history from Cebu City, one of the areas severely hit by the pandemic in the Philippines.

She arrived in Cotabato on June 16 after testing negative from antibody rapid tests.

According to Cotabato Health Emergency Manager board member Dr. Philbert Malaluan, the woman experienced fever and cough during her stay at the Tulunan isolation facility on June 19 and later had difficulty in breathing.

She is under close monitoring as she continues to experience symptoms.

Another new patient is a 20-year-old male from Kidapawan City. Malaluan said the man has travel history from Davao City and was exposed to a confirmed positive case.

He experienced fever and body pains last June 20 but all his symptoms subsided, according to the official.

"Kasama siya ng team na sumama sa stranded and nag-assist siya dun sa COVID patient sa Tulunan," Malaluan said.

The man was brought to the USM Hospital Isolation Facility.

An 84-year-old male from Barangay Sudapin in Kidapawan City was also confirmed positive for COVID-19. Malaluan said the patient has a history of respiratory symptoms.

According to reports, the elderly patient has no history of exposure to any patients and that his only travel history is to one hospital in Cotabato province and 2 hospitals in Davao City.

He is currently being treated at the Southern Philippines Medical Center in Davao City.
