MANILA – A police officer accused of extortion was wounded in an entrapment operation in San Fernando City, Pampanga Tuesday.

According to a report at the national police headquarters, Police Cpl. Joeton Samson, assigned at Mabalacat City police station and detailed as jailer at Pampanga police provincial office, was accused of demanding P150,000 from a woman in exchange for the release of her Toyota Wigo vehicle which was confiscated during an anti-drug operation.

After the transaction along MacArthur Highway, part of Barangay Maimpis, at about 9 in the morning, joint operatives of the Philippine National Police Integrity Monitoring and Enforcement Group and Intelligence Group showed up to arrest the suspect but he sped off using the Wigo.

Authorities said Samson resisted arrest. He reportedly shot the arresting officers first, prompting one of them to return fire hitting the suspect on his left shoulder.

Samson was brought to Jose B. Lingad Memorial Regional Hospital and was declared safe and stable by the attending physician.

Recovered from the possession of the suspect are the marked boodle money amounting to P150,000 and 1 pistol.
