ILOILO CITY -- The brother of an alleged drug lord slain in 2016 was arrested on Monday.
Hundreds of policemen from different units of the regional police surrounded Barangay Tanza Esperanza in this city to serve search warrants to Noel Odicta, an outgoing barangay chairman and incoming kagawad, and 4 others for illegal possession of firearms.
Odicta was picked up from the garage of their taxi company, where he was temporarily staying. Their taxi drivers initially thought that he was abducted. He was brought by the policemen to his house located a few meters away from the garage of the taxi company.
He refused to give statement to members of the media, but was calm during his arrest.
Odicta is the brother of Melvin Odicta, who was involved in illegal drugs not only in Iloilo but in many parts of the Visayas, according to President Rodrigo Duterte.
Melvin and his wife Meriam were gunned down months after denying their involvement in the drug trade before then-Interior Secretary Mike Sueno.
Aside from Odicta's house, the police also raided the respective houses of 4 more subjects: Jerry Odicta, Abraham Orada, Andrew Altas and Samuel Rubinas.
Altas, Odicta's brother-in-law, was shot after he allegedly fired his gun at police.
