MANILA -- Sen. Panfilo Lacson on Monday rejected accusations that he was "posturing for 2022," following his recent criticism of President Rodrigo Duterte’s response to the ramming of a Chinese vessel of a Filipino fishing boat in Reed (Recto) Bank.
Lacson last week said Duterte “left us heartbroken” after the latter said the sinking was just a “maritime incident” and should not be blown out of proportion.
"To those accusing me of posturing for 2022, I am not. I am just myself - mostly serious, sometimes funny, naughty, controversial, dull, boring," the lawmaker told his 23,000 Twitter followers.
He said he also "loves" the microblogging site, which "makes me think, fact-check, google and learn."
Lacson on Sunday warned that a joint investigation with China and a third party into the sinking of Filipino vessel F/B GEM-VER "may be interpreted as a waiver of our right of ownership of Recto Bank."
The senator last week also said Presidential Spokesman Salvador Panelo appeared to be a "defense counsel" of Beijing after he remarked that conflicting accounts on the incident cast doubt on the testimonies of the Filipino fishermen.
Panelo, also the chief presidential legal counsel, said Lacson's comments are a "shallow analysis" of his examination of the incident.
