MANILA - Mental health programs will be more accessible and affordable under the new Mental Health law, a psychologist said on Sunday.
"Pag sinabi mong mahalaga ang pang-kaisipang kalusugan magse-set aside ka ng pondo para sa serbisyo at programa na sasagot sa mga pangangailangan ng may kapansanan sa isip," Dr. Violeta Bautista, life coach and psychologist from the Psychological Association of the Philippine told DZMM.
Mental health disorders such as depression and schizophrenia affect 1 out of 5 Filipinos, Bautista said citing a data from the Department of Health (DOH) and the World Health Organization (WHO).
Depression, Bautista said, is caused by genetic orientation triggered by personal experiences.
"Yung mga karanasan sa buhay maaring mag-trigger ng likas na katangian mo na oriented towards depression," she said.
The law will also help intensity the drive for mental health awareness, she said.
