PARANG, Maguindanao - The chief of the Philippine National Police said Tuesday policemen should comply with the ban against back riding in motorcycles, among physical distancing measures during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Troops should be the "first one to follow" quarantine restrictions, General Archie Gamboa said, after photos of policemen on a single motorcycle circulated on social media.

Policemen who defy the back ride ban will be punished, Gamboa said. "Just like any other ordinary citizen. There's no exemption," he said.

The Philippine Coast Guard earlier reminded its personnel to abide by pandemic guidelines after its personnel were also caught violating the prohibition on back rides.

Gamboa is set to hold a security conference with Bangsamoro regional authorities to discuss security plans during the pandemic.

He also led the inauguration of 4 buildings in the Bangsamoro Police Regional Office and gave recognition to some policemen.
