MANILA - The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) on Monday said 2,160 more Filipinos abroad has contracted coronavirus disease (COVID-19), raising the total of overseas infections among Filipino citizens to 8,301.
DFA attributed the spike to “accumulated late reports from some countries in the Middle East observing strict confidentiality and privacy laws.”
A similar increase in recoveries was reported with 2,193 new recoveries reported mostly from the Middle East, bringing the total number of Filipinos who have recovered from the disease to 5,055.
The disease also killed 10 more overseas workers, bringing the death toll to 506, the agency said.
To date, some 2,740 Filipino patients abroad are undergoing treatment for COVID-19, by region: 80 in the Asia Pacific, 436 in Europe, 2,076 in the Middle East and Africa, and 148 in the Americas.
In the Philippines, COVID-19 has so far sickened 30,682 people, with 1,177 deaths and 8,143 recoveries.
