MANILA - Around P300 million worth of fake shoes and bags were seized Wednesday from several warehouses in Baclaran, Pasay City, the Bureau of Customs (BOC) said Friday.
“The operation was conducted after the BOC-ESS (Enforcement and Security Service) received a tip that fake items are stored in the buildings and this was also confirmed by brand representative Lee Bumgarner Inc. (LBI), brand owner of shoe and apparel brand 'Vans'," Customs Commissioner Isidro Lapeña said in a statement.
The bureau said the warehouses were owned or leased to aliases Cai Lu Zhi, Yang Yang, Yong Shun Chen, and Angkong, who were not in the premises during the raid.
The warehouse owners were given 15 days starting Wednesday to provide proof of the legitimacy of the products before the bureau takes the next steps, including possibly destroying the items.
They will be charged with violations of the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act in relation to the Intellectual Property Code, the bureau said.
