Rappler boss Ressa featured in Madonna's new music video

MANILA – Rappler chief Maria Ressa was featured in pop icon Madonna’s new music video, which tackles the global fight for rights.

Aside from the suppression of press freedom, the music video of Madonna’s new song “I Rise” also tackles gun violence in the United States, the LGBT sector’s fight for equality, sexual abuse, and other social justice movements.

The music video, which also featured Filipino press freedom protesters and a jailed Myanmar Reuters journalist, was created by Madonna in partnership with TIME Studios.

Ressa is facing various cases, which she blamed on Rappler’s critical coverage of President Rodrigo Duterte's government.

She was named as one of TIME's Persons of the Year. in 2018
