President Rodrigo Duterte on Wednesday gave land titles with a total area of 2,694 hectares to 2,314 agrarian reform beneficiaries in Western Visayas.
Duterte was assisted by Agrarian Reform Secretary John Castriciones in giving the titles to the beneficiaries in Cabatuan, Iloilo.
The emancipation patents and certificate of land ownership awards serve as proof of ownership by the landless farmers who are beneficiaries of the Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program. They can now freely utilize the lands for agricultural purposes.
Castriciones also distributed various projects intended for agrarian reform beneficiaries in the region, including the three "Tulay ng Pangulo Para sa Agraryo Project".
A mass-oathtaking of newly appointed and promoted Agrarian Reform officials was also conducted.
Duterte, meanwhile, urged Congress to draft a law declaring Boracay as agricultural lands.
"There will be an implementation of a land reform. Sabi nila land is not suited for...wala akong pakialam diyan. It is the problem of the Department of Agriculture," he said.
The president also told the beneficiaries that they could sell their lands after 5 to 10 years.
