ANTIQUE—An anti-drug agent allegedly involved in the drug trade was killed in a police operation in Brgy. San Juan, Sibalom here, Tuesday.
Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) agent Macario Grasparil Jr., was killed in a buy-bust operation in his house after allegedly grabbing an officer's firearm and attempting to fire, said Insp. Clark Philip Dinco.
Grasparil was the main subject of the operation by the Sibalom Police and the Provincial Drug Enforcement Unit.
Dinco said Grasparil took his magnum 357 revolver and attempted to fire at policemen upon sensing that it was a drug bust operation.
The policemen then neutralized Grasparil.
A total of 12 sachets of suspected shabu and two firearms were recovered during the operation.
Grasparil, an Intelligence Officer I of PDEA Panay, was also considered a high value target. He was included in the watch list due to his alleged connections with Richard Prevendido, the No. 1 drug personality in Western Visayas.
PDEA Deputy Regional Director Levi Ortiz meanwhile said the agency would request the National Bureau of Investigation to conduct a separate investigation on the buy bust operation. Ortiz said he considered Grasparil a hardworking PDEA agent.
He added that Grasparil was part of the team who conducted operations against Prevendido and his relatives.
Grasparil worked for PDEA for more than 8 years.
