The former mayor of San Dionisio town in Iloilo is facing charges for nepotism after he appointed his son to a municipal position in 2015, the Office of the Ombudsman said Tuesday.

Records showed that former San Dionisio mayor Peter Paul King Lopez appointed his son Carlos Paul as executive assistant, and later on issued an executive order to name his son as Acting Licensing Officer of the municipality in 2015.

"While Carlos was only designated as Acting Licensing Officer, the rule on Nepotism admits of no distinction between appointment and designation," the Ombudsman said in a statement.

The former mayor will face charges for violation of Section 79 of the Local Government Code that prohibits government officials from appointing relatives up to the fourth civil degree to career service posts.
