Cebu Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia on Friday said that she and the Regional Inter-Agency Task Force have agreed to downgrade Talisay City from modified enhanced community quarantine to general community quarantine.
This developed after Talisay Mayor Samsam Gullas appealed for the provincial capitol’s help to change the perception that COVID-19 cases in the city are still high risk.
Gullas blasted an erroneous report that reached the national IATF on COVID-19 management, showing a zero recovery rate in Talisay.
Garcia said she based her Executive Order from an IATF provision authorizing the provincial government to impose or lift a quarantine classification in any of its component city or municipality with the concurrence of the regional IATF.
On June 16, Talisay was placed under MECQ, while the rest of the province’s component cities and towns were under extended GCQ until the end of the month.
The regional IATF is expected to release a resolution that will ultimately ease the quarantine in Talisay.
