And it looks like they are succeeding with the captain of the Gem-Ver 1 now saying he doesn’t know if they were rammed. This came after the fishermen of the Filipino boat met with Agriculture Sec. Manny Pinol, who has been tasked to take care of the fishermen. Pinol said the abandonment of the Chinese crew is the issue. Former UP Mass Communications dean Luis Teodoro alleged that Pinol was intimidating the fishermen to change their story. Other officials have also softened their previously strong stance on the issue. Defense Sec. Delfin Lorenzana now saying it was an accident. According to a ABS-CBN report, another fisherman said he is not changing his story that they were rammed by a Chinese boat.

The race for speaker of the House is heating up. Aspirant Alan Peter Cayetano held a fellowship gathering with colleagues in Pampanga. According to reports, 30 came. At another gathering at the Palace, 130 came. This gathering included rivals Dong Gonzales and Lord Allan Velasco who is considered the front runner. Who has the upper hand? President Duterte is expected to declare his choice for House speaker. Cayetano also fired broadsides at his rivals, blasting them for allegedly engaging in vote buying.
