The Philippine National Police on Tuesday dismissed as fake a supposed police memorandum that circulated on social media about a planned bombing in Metro Manila.
"This is a fake memo. Thank you for the info," the PNP relied to the tweets of netizens who were trying to verify the legitimacy of the document that went viral.
The alleged internal police memo dated June 16 tells about a supposed bomb plot by Maute terrorists targeting certain areas in Quiapo, Manila, Quezon City and Makati.
The National Capital Region Police Office earlier ordered an investigation of a memorandum addressed to Valenzuela police stations about an alleged plot to bomb several areas in Metro Manila that was leaked on social media.
"Following this, I have ordered the Northern Police District Director Bong Fajardo to investigate the document handling procedure at the Valenzuela Police Station," NCRPO Director Oscar Albayalde said in a statement.
Albayalde urged the public to stop sharing unverified documents that may cause due alarm.
